The 14th annual Marina shootout was held by the Ocean City Marlin Club this past weekend. With most boats targeting the big bluefins around here lately we had very little company out in 1000 fathoms lookin for marlin. We set out offshore of the 461 bump on a temperature change, and found very little bait or other life. We did see a pod of sperm whales, which was an awesome sight, but no marlins. We worked inshore towards the bump and what do you know, in mid bite of a cheeseburger there he is. Blue marlin comin onto the left short mackeral. The fish put up a great fight, and we got a clean release in about 15 minutes. Congratulations to my Dad, on getting the first blue one for the new boat! After the blue, we worked the area and caught some nice gaffers, which won us 1st and 2nd in the dolphin catagory. So, we had a great day in all and while no whites were to be seen, we got our first blue of the year! The Marlin Club put on one hell of a crab feast for the awards banquet, and we even won some awards. !st place boat for billfish points, and 1st and 2nd place dolphins. We are off to a great start this season, and are really lookin forward to the next couple of months when fishing should really be heating up.
